How to plan a holiday movie marathon the whole house will sit through
Every year the same thing happens: someone suggests a movie night, everyone agrees, and forty minutes are lost to scrolling. A running order fixes that. The trick is to programme the evening like a channel instead of a library.
The three-film structure
- Open with something short and funny — 90 minutes, low commitment, everyone still awake.
- Follow with the classic everyone claims to have seen but has not.
- Close with a film that ends on a high note, ideally before 10 p.m.
Set the room up properly
Dim the lights but do not turn them off — contrast looks better and people move around less. Enable the television's movie preset, disable motion smoothing, and put the player's guide away so nobody wanders into the channel list mid-film.
If a film drops out mid-scene, resist the urge to troubleshoot for twenty minutes. Switch to a second device already signed in, or use catch-up to restart the title from the on-demand library. The evening is the point, not the perfect stream.
