What you need
- Your TV remote (Samsung SolarCell or LG Magic Remote)
- Your Wi-Fi name and password, or an Ethernet cable to the TV
- The email and password for each streaming account you already have
- Optional: a Samsung account or LG account for the app store
Step by step
- Connect to the internet. Go to the network settings and join your Wi-Fi. If the router is near the TV, a wired Ethernet connection is more reliable.
- Update the TV software. Samsung: Settings → Support → Software Update. LG: Settings → General (or Support) → Software Update. Turn on automatic updates.
- Install and arrange apps. Open the Apps store on Samsung or the LG Content Store and install the streaming apps you subscribe to. Move them to the front of the home bar.
- Sign in with your own accounts. Open each app and sign in or use the activation code shown on screen. Create profiles for each family member and a kids profile where available.
- Pick the right picture mode. Use Movie or Filmmaker Mode for films and series, and Standard for daytime TV. Turn off motion smoothing (Auto Motion Plus on Samsung, TruMotion on LG) unless you like the effect.
- Set up sound and HDMI-CEC. Choose the right sound output (TV speakers, HDMI ARC/eARC or optical). Turn on Anynet+ (Samsung) or SIMPLINK (LG) so the TV remote controls a soundbar or connected device.
Specialist tip
Skip the TV’s vivid “store mode” settings — they look bright in a shop but crush detail at home in the evening.
Troubleshooting
An app will not open
Update the TV software, then delete and reinstall the app. A full power reset — unplug the TV for a minute — clears most app glitches.
The LG Magic Remote pointer is gone
Point the remote at the TV and press the wheel to wake it, or re-pair it by holding Home and Back together.
Sound is out of sync
Set the TV audio format to PCM or Auto, and use the lip-sync or audio delay setting on the TV or soundbar.
